It has been months since The Walking Dead graced our screens and I’m starting to get withdrawal symptoms, but knowing there is just over a month to go is holding me together for just a little bit longer. During this time there has been so many reports and theories on who will meet the business end of Lucille – From the comic original Glenn to Abraham the stoic, love-sick puppy. What we know for sure is only what they have allowed us to know, whether they meant to or not.
A few weeks ago in an interview, Greg Nicotero reportedly slipped up and may have given a little bit of the game away. He is quoted as saying “If we would have shown the deaths, then they wouldn’t have felt our characters in season 7 the way they need to.” Pick up on that, did you? No? He said deaths – PLURAL. This could easily have been a miss pronunciation or was it in fact too much information that he accidentally spilled.
Because of this plural, people over the interwebs have been going mad with speculation. Some feel that it could be Rick and Carl because they are a pairing – but let’s be honest, they are not going to kill off the character with the biggest story arch – never mind his son. However, another theory which seems to have gotten more traction revolves around our ever lovely Lauren Cohan who, of course, plays Maggie.
The theory is that because Maggie is currently pregnant in the TV series, and recent developments in the S6 finale showed that there were some problems with said bun in the oven, it could turn out to be true if Maggie is the one who gets the Lucille treatment as she won’t be the only victim. Her unborn baby will also suffer.
A terrifying thought, but would AMC be so bold as to kill off not only a fan favourite but whilst she’s also pregnant? I personally think that if it were true it would have the shock factor we all want after such a cliffhanger but so many fans will be infuriated at her exit – myself included.
So what are your thoughts on this new theory? Do you believe the hype that Maggie could be the victim or do you think people are reading too much into an innocent slip up? Let us know in the comments below.
